Getting From Start to Finish: Creating your first Zippy Course

Welcome to Zippy Courses! If you’re just getting started with Zippy Courses, this guide will point you in the right direction. We've broken the entire Zippy Courses creation process down into six steps. On each step, you can find links to more detailed guides if you find yourself getting stuck.

Step 1. Set up your web hosting

If you’re starting from square 1, you will have to set up a domain and host before you begin. Thankfully, hosts like Bluehost, HostGator, and Dreamhost make this quick and easy, and you can even get WordPress installed in a single click.

If you already have web hosting, you may want to set up a subdomain dedicated to your Zippy Courses plugin. Most web hosts will let you do this for free. With Zippy Courses, it’s actually a best practice to use a separate subdomain or website. One for your main blog. And one for your course website. Why? Because your main blog should be made for attracting visitors and getting them to convert to email subscribers. And your second website or subdomain should be tailor-made for your students to consume and learn from your training material. Your web host can tell you how to set up a subdomain, but here are some guides from common web hosts: 

Step 2. Install WordPress

If you don’t have WordPress installed yet, our guide on getting started with WordPress will help you get up and running. 

Most web hosts will have a one-click installer tool for installing WordPress on your site. The easiest way to install WordPress is to use this installer, which will take you step-by-step through creating your site. 

If you have installed WordPress, you may still want to review all of your settings to make sure you’re good to go.

A Note on Permalinks: To create the links on your website, WordPress uses your Permalinks settings to display your site. To set your permalinks, go to “Settings” -> “Permalinks.” Zippy Courses requires that permalink be set. To set these, go to your permalink menu and choose any non-default option, such as Post Name.

Step 3. Install the Zippy Courses Plugin and Theme

If you’re familiar with WordPress, you might already know how to install your Zippy Courses plugins. But, if not, these videos will show you how to get started:

Step 4: Create Your Course

After entering your license key, the best place to begin is by clicking on the Zippy Courses icon in your WordPress admin sidebar. Now, you can start creating your first course!

Step 5. Integrate your Mailing List

Courses are more than an opportunity to share your knowledge, they’re also a great method for lead generation. That’s why Zippy Courses lets you integrate your Email Marketing tool of choice. When you integrate your mailing lists, you can have every student who registers for your course automatically added to your mailing list. This is a great way to send them updates about future products or opportunities.

Step 6. Sell your Course

Whether you want to give your course away for a single price, subscription, payment plan, or completely free, you can create a Product that does what you need. 

 Even free courses need to have a Product! Create a Free product to allow people to register for your course for free.
